The routine procedure in paternity cases is briefly outlined below:

  1. Briefing and signing of documents
  2. Blood smear from alleged parent and child. Biological sample from the known parent may or may not be required.
  3. DNA extraction
  4. PCR Amplification
  5. Automated DNA Fragment Analysis
  6. Statistical analyses of DNA patterns using Population Genetics- based principles and/or sequence analyses of known genetic markers
